The Philippines will host the training of maritime instructors in Asia in accordance with the revised module of the course prepared by the International Maritime Organization.
Maritime Training Council chairman Bienvenido Laguesma says the training, which will be conducted on August 14-25 at the Holiday Inn Hotel, is significant to the current efforts being made by the Philippine government in complying with all the requirements of the revised Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention. The training is known in the maritime field as IMO Model Course 6.09, which will be conducted by the United Nation Agency and sponsored by the Singapore government.
Selected participants to the training course are those nominated by the governments of Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Iran, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and the Philippines. Instructors for the training course are Subir Jukerji and Jimmy Che Kwok of Singapore Maritime Authority.
Laguesma said the Singaporeans are marine officers who are distinguished in the field of maritime education. Both have extensive experience and recognized by the IMO in handling the training of maritime instructors.
